About Sheila Johnson
Holding a BA in music from the University of Illinois, Johnson is an avid sponsor of the arts and an accomplished violinist. She presently serves as Chairman of the Board of Governors of Parsons The New School for Design and sits on the boards of VH1 Save the Music, Americans for the Arts, the Curry School of Education Foundation at the University of Virginia, and the University of Illinois Foundation.
She recently established the Sheila C. Johnson Performing Arts Center at the Hill School in Middleburg, VA. As a founder of Black Entertainment Television, her crowning achievement was the development of an award-winning weekly program "Teen Summit," giving teenagers a chance to talk frankly about their critical issues. Since 2006, Johnson has been working with CARE to build solidarity for the worldwide movement to empower women and girls as catalysts for change.
A Powerful Noise is her second film as Executive Producer. Her other film, Kickin' It, is an official selection of the 2008 Sundance Film Festival.
